Dr. Carrigan is interested in how digital technology has changed the human experience and how digital tools can help us to understand the past. Her teaching interests include American and World history, Digital Humanities, and News Literacy project.
Dr. Carrigan earned her doctorate from the State University of New York at Albany. Her research has focused on early New York State divorce policy within the Atlantic World context. Earlier research investigated Alexander Hamilton's position on and relationship with slavery.
She has presented her teaching methods and scholarly research at conferences including those held by the Mid-Atlantic World History Association, the Society of Early Americanists, and the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic. Dr. Carrigan is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Florida Digital Humanities Consortium, Phi Alpha, and the American Historical Association. She enjoys traveling, and was fortunate to be part of a scholars’ trip to Cuba in 2012 where she took the photo below.
